Has anyone had a colonoscopy since they have had the j pouch? I am nervous about the cleansing preperation. I had taken a few saline enemas since the pouch, and I can't tell you the gas and cramping that caused!!

Will the Saline fleet that they give you to drink cause the same thing?

What about the scope they use for the colonoscopy? Does the pouch hold up well with that thing?

Any input would be appreciated.

I just had my first colonoscopy done with my new pouch and all my Doctor told me to do is not to have anything to eat or drink past midnight. I had my snack at 9:30 the night before and I was good to go for the scope the next day, hope that helps

You should have little to no prep, at least I don't with my J Pouch.........I'm confused by your topic heading and first line where your asking about followup "colonoscopy" with a J Pouch ~ yet you have a colon?

I have flex sigmoidscopes every year (minimum) as per followup with FAP. I also have upper Endoscopies at the same time.........

My only prep is no solid food after about 9PM the evening before (most of my scopes are in the morning) and I have not ever done any prep besides that. Anymore, I go on a liquid diet starting at say 4PM and am "running clear" by 10 PM and know I'm fine.

Make sure the GI/Doc uses a pediatric tip with the Flex Sig with a J Pouch......trust me!

If you do take some prep, you DO NOT need the full dose like "normal" colon'ed people.......our plumbing system is much easier to clean out than that! Smiler

and btw, when you have a J Pouch they will NOT use a "colonoscope" on you, they will use a flex(ible) sigmoidscope which is different. Wink

Chuckus
I still have all my plumbing except my rectum. a portion of that was removed due to rectal cancer, so I am looking forward to a full colonoscopy. Sorry for the confusion. I do have a J pouch though..
