weight loss and waking up frequently

Hello all,
I had colitis for almost 25 years and had my colon removed in October 2008. I had the external colonscopy bag for about 5 weeks and then had the takedown surgery in December 2008.

It has been fairly smooth sailing ever since. For the past month though I noticed a weight loss of about 8-10 pounds and have been waking up almost hourly when I go to sleep. Previously I had been waking up one or two times at most. Now it is more like 6-8 times. Any advice how to get this back under control?

I have a metamucil fiber bar every morning and 4 loperamide a day (2 in the morning and 2 at night). I have been doing this since my surgery.

Thanks,

When I had pouchitis I had increased frequency, weight loss due to the increased frequency, dehydration and fatigue as a result. Do you think you could have pouchitis?

Thank you for your reply! Is it possible to have pouchitis and not have pain? Also when I wake up to use the bathroom, it is always solid. I am going to see the doctor about this tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Adding a nightly probiotic has helped me finally get a good nights sleep. While I've tried lots of brands/kinds the one that did it was by Renew life, their 50 billion formula.

I never had pain or a solid bm. Let us know what the doc says!

I will have to try that probiotic. Thanks for the recommendation. My doctor put me on Cipro twice a day. I am still waking up 3-4 times a night, but that is less than before. I am still losing weight though, even though I am eating more than ever. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow.

Thanks again.

I've had pouchitis and not even known it. Just went in for a scope one day for a check up and my doc said I had it really bad. So that could be it. Best of luck to you.
