My husband is 3 weeks post takedown - last night started experiencing increasing number of BM's with more urgency, incontinence and discomfort in lower abdomen. This has continued today, along with nausea and vomiting. His MD has prescribed Cipro. Is nausea/vomiting usually a symptom of pouchitis?

Fluffy, Nausea can be a symptom of pouchitis but vomiting is very unlikely. It sounds to me maybe a partial blockage, if it is a blockage antibiodics will probably make it worse because they will further thicken the stool. Was he vomiting before he went to se the DR? If he wasnt you may want to call and add that to the symptom list because that could change the Docs thought on what it may be. For me the symptoms of pouchitis are increased stools(from 6 a day to 20 a day), a lot of lower back pain and lots of cramping around and below my bellybutton. Good Luck, Scott Mc

I would be hesitant to start down the road of antibiotics for pouchitis at this early stage wihtout a scope confirming the diagnosis. If the surgeon put your husband on the antibiotics just from a phone call and not an exam/scope, I would question it...
I agree vomiting sounds like an unusual symptom for pouchitis and is probably more related to an obstruction or some other factor.
