Has anyone had this happen I went to a new Gi and she said I do not have crohns.. brief history I was told for yrs I had UC had jpouch and many problems etc, my surgeon did many tests said no crohns then one day out of blue says this tests say's yes.
He sent me to the Gi and she says no where on this tests does it say I have crohns he refuses to fix my hernia's or touch me until crohns is undercontrol she says no he is wrong. I feel like a yo yo nobody can make up there mind but she did give me new meds and they seem to work soem what but I just started taking a few days ago. I did ask her what I have she said she doesnt know yet but no tests say crohns.. So lost on what is even wrong with me because they seem to not know anything but this new Gi seems to be on the right track I knew deep down I did not have crohns ... I need theses darn hernia fixed because if I go back to work I won't pass the pysical as i'm an auto tech I been off for 2yrs and I need to go back doctor is making me mad ..The crappy part I have yet to find a surgeon who will even touch me locally ...IF I had the money I would leave this crappy state and find me a doctor or even go back to CC... I feel this doctor is stopping me from moving on from life.. He was trained by the U of M and by clevelenad clinic you think he would have some common sense atleast... I knew he was wrong because every time I asked him if he had a patient like me he would say no your a challenge.. Any advice would be great on what to do ..mainly for my herina's to get repaired... other issue I think The gi is on the right track. STEP 1 SEPT 20 2006 STEP2 MARCH 14 2007 UC JULY 16 2003 hernia scar revision and more march 22nd 2008 end up being step 1 all over again resections . may 10th infection in wound had to have surgey to open me back up sept 10th perma ostemy SO much for step2 |

Jeff,
The only thing I can think of suggesting is to try and find a teaching hospital where they take on challenging patients. I have found that the hospital where I go (which is a teaching hospital) has doctors who are not afraid to take things on that others might not. I know of two surgeons who have done adhesion removal without batting an eye, while others here say their surgeons won't because of the risk of the adhesions growing back. Might try to find some and ask around. "...it came to pass..." - I Thess. 3:4b (NASB) |

Jeff,
Have you tried the University of Chicago? It is a great teaching hospital. They did my surgeries there. They have an outstanding staff in the IBD dept. I also notice your in Michigan and so it is a short driving distance. Jim Keep Smiling, Jim |

Hey Jeff,
Since it is two years and you can't work have you applied for disability once you're under that you would be free to leave the state right? Even now is there away for you to go to the Cleveland Clinic from your current location to at least get a correct diagnoses of your condition or even the one in Chicago depending on what's closer for you. You sound as if you really need another set of eyes on your condition from a surgical stand point. C |

Hey Jeff, This is kind of a side note, but it might be worth considering. I decided to give up wrenching do to the increased risk of hernias after the surgery. I know a lot of guys that are “normal” and have ended up getting the mesh just because of the toll wrenching takes on your body. It kind of feels like I wasted a bunch of time getting my certs and going to school, but at least I can still do it as a hobby, and to save money on my own cars. I took a position as a service writer for the sake of getting short term disability, for the surgeries, but I hate it. As soon as my commitment to the company is up for the disability, I am gone. I am considering seeing about teaching at the community college I went too for my schooling. That way I can still have a good day at work, as I can't imagine enjoying any other career, but protect myself by not trying to work at the speed required to make any money in a production shop.

The thing is, Crohn's and UC are so closely related that alot of times there is a diagnosis of "indeterminant colitis" meaning, they are pretty sure you have colitis, but there is a very very small chance it could be crohns. I had my entire colon biopsied after my colectomy and they still didn't know. The other thing is, sometimes it is hard to get symptoms of either disease under control. There is a point where meds can stop working and the only option is surgery. Also, there are many meds that are used to treat both UC and Crohn's so it may be just coincidence that your GI has found you some relief.
My surgeon also is from Cleveland Clinic (in Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and he is a wonderful, knowledgeable doctor. I also have a separate GI doctor. It sounds to me like you need a second opinion from another surgeon. If your doctor has never had another patient like you, then it wouldn't hurt to consult with another doctor who is more experienced. Also, keep in mind that while GI's are knowledgeable, they are not surgeons, so they may not know everything that a surgeon might due to lack of experience in that area. |
