after almost 2 years after td, my husband is still having nighttime accidents. we have tried it all, nothing works. any suggestions? it is demoralizing. he is about 6 to 7 times per day but most are at night. the sleep depravation takes a toll. tried bananas, probiotics, immodium, lomotil, etc..
he is in great shape, travels, goes to the gym, plays golf and has an active social life.
anything new to try?

How late does he eat? If his issues are mostly at night, perhaps he should try to less after a certain hour.

If this only occurs at night is should be fixable after visiting with a rectal physical therapist. I highly recommend he find one. I had similar problem and was cured by the PT. There are rectal PTs in Los Angeles; mine was at USC Norris but she has since retired. I think you can find one through the Colorectal Institute at Glendale Memorial. PM me if you need more info.

his passes during the day seem normal..must be what hes eating..I have to cut off veggies and fruits at night,..i eat white rice and chicken with terreaki sauce,.1 banana at 6pm every day,..the rice binds me for the night. Maybe he can try that dinner plate..if he eats past 7pm he may have trouble at night.

I agree with the not eating late at night..I usually stick to a piece of protien (fish or chicken) and a little soup...no bread or gassy veggies (and I have a K pouch..but my problem is overfilling and then not sleeping or having to get up regularly to empty)...then I just drink herb tea for the rest of the night...one late night empty-out before bed helps to...
As for the PT...he can do some stuff himself..
1. at every red light...contract the anal muscles for 5 seconds..relax and repeat..work your way up to holding during the whole length of the red light. alternate with contracting the abdomen. Do not forget to breath!
2. (ok, this sounds discusting and dumb but..it helps) you need a very small object that is the size of a small tampon (yes, I used a tampon). place at the entrance of the anal sphinctre just slightly inside..while standing squat down slightly and contract the anal muscle...while contracting stand back up...repeat...(very easy to do in the bathroom while standing in the bath tub)repeat 10xs...try if possible to do it daily for at least a week and then 3xs a week until you feel the sphinctre holding better...you can start with a slightly larger tampon and work your way down to a mini..training your sphinctre to hold tighter...
3. lying flat on the floor tighten your butt, abs and sphinctre as tightly as possible, lift both legs off of the floor about 5 inches, hold for 10 seconds. Repeat at least 5 xs. Start out doing at least 3xs a week.
This should help a lot...half of the problem is probably that he is too 'full' before bed and the other half that the sphinctre isn't holding so doing both should make life easier..
Let me know if it helps him.
Sharon

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

HI, I have this trouble too, I find codeine (about 20mg) give some relief for about 4 hours.Don't drink many fluids late in the day, eat early in the evening. In saying that I still go about about 7-10 x a night. It is very tiring I know!

Only two things have helped me: codiene helped somewhat--Tylenol #3 with codiene, two tablets at bedtime. But I still had one accident every night. My surgeon put me on tincture of opium. 0.4 cc at bedtime didn't quite do the trick, but 0.6 cc was magical! (Of course I tend to crash into walls if I have to get up to urinate.)
