I feel stupid for bugging you guys about this but I am getting desperate. I am alone and taking care of my two little girls. It has been 5 months since my take down. Last night I started to get severe abdominal pain and I vomited. I have lots of diarrhea. I am trying to keep up with electrolyte water and was chalking this up to food poisoning. A few hours before it started, i noticed that the store-bought pro biotic yogurt drink that I had was out of date. This is the second night of pain, though. I only vomited the one night. Could I have hurt myself digging in the yard? Does vomit ever go with pouchitis? I am gurgling a little bit, but I think it may be because I am not eating very much. I have no fever. How long do I wait it out? I am getting pretty tired and a little worried about driving the girls around tomorrow. Thanks for any advice that you have!

First, don't feel bad about writing on here, that is what this board is for! Never apologize
Now, sounds like if you can't keep any fluids down then you may need the clinic tomorrow, but I wouldn't go much longer with that type of cramping and such without seeing someone. Or maybe even call your GI on Monday morning. Also, be sure to take care of you, so if the girls get a Monday at home, it is better than the stress of driving them around while you are sick. hang in there. megan Mark & Megan Surgery/Recovery and Daily Life Photo & Journal below. http://ucstory.wordpress.com/ Check it out, we are updating regularly it isn't just the surgery photos, we've expanded! |

Hi Jujubee,
Before panicing...find out if there isn't a 'bug' going around....it could just be a gastro...if you can rule food poisioning and a flu bug or gastro out then you can look for other sources...is it getting better or worse? can charcoal or other natural products help to slow down the intestines? Trying going on a green tea and liquid diet for a day or two....to help your system to heal itself and then if it continues..call the doctor. Good luck and keep us posted Sharon |

Megan and Sharon - thank you for your replies. I kept my eldest home from school and stayed in contact with my neighbor. The pain is subsiding and I ate a banana and a little bit of rice today. If not better all the way by tonight, I will go in to get checked. I learned a lot - both of my girls are celiac so I was scared to leave them anywhere AND I do not have a local GI doctor. When I'm better, I have some tasks to do - putting together a gluten-free snack bag for the girls and finding a doctor that is close by!!! I really, really appreciate your kind words and suggestions. I was not thinking clearly and I never would have thought of pulling my eldest out of school (7 year old) or sticking to a liquid/brat diet. In sincerest gratitude, Julie

Sounds like you are feeling a bit better. Your probiotic drink was probably fine, even if it was outdated. Those nasty intestinal viruses (rotavirus, norovirus, etc.) can come on fast and last only a day or two. Watch your kids closely for symptoms in the upcoming days, since these bugs are pretty contagious. You did the right thing with keeping up with the oral fluids and circling the wagons! One thing though, when you have a virus, taking bowel slowers can prolong the illness, by slowing the time the body sheds the virus, so they are often avoided. However, you can't allow yourself to completely dehydrate either.
