Hey fellow JPouchers, I have a question for ya about a possible blockage. I recently, March 26th, had my take down surgery and JPouch formation surgery and things have been kinda rough since then. After 2 weeks of tons of bms, I started to take 1 Immodium every 6 hours which helped slow things down a lot. Now for the past 5 days Ive had this awful pain in my stomach and the left side of my stomach is real hard yet tender. I plan on contacting my doctor tommorow to ask him what this may be.
Ive read other posts about blockages and constipation and gas, but the thing is Im still having 5-10 bms a day. I dont know if having a blockage means ou have no bms, fewer bms or what, so I was wondering what those who have dealt with these think. I avoid sugar, drink plenty of water, eat Cheerios and peanut butter sandwiches mainly and walk around plenty. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Sounds like a partial obstruction. Lay off of the heavy solids for now. Drink lots of liquids. Keep moving around. You may want to stop the Imodium for a few days, play it by ear. You don't want to slow too much.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Usually when a blockage starts for me I'll still have BM's but they'll be all liquid, since that's the only thing that can pass. Then, as it gets worse, I have no BM's, extreme pain and if it's really bad, vomitting. Now when I feel the first pain, I stop eating and drinking for a while and then bring liquids and soft foods in after I'm sure it's not bad and I won't be going to the ER. Keep your eye on it and if it gets to where you are in extreme pain and vomitting, go to the ER.

As you are still having no improvement then I think you should go to a totally liquid diet for now until either it resolves or you get to see your doctor. Sip warm liquids like tea or just plain water and try to move as much as possible. A heating pad or hot water bottle over your tummy can give some relief as can a long soak in a hot bath. Try not to take any meds that might slow you down such as Imodium or pain meds as these will make things worse.
Good luck and keep us posted.
