Hey hey fellow J-Pouchers, Im looking for some advice here. Im about 2 full months post takedown and since then Ive had some ups and downs including an abcsess (my second one). The abcsess was drained and so Im getting back to normal now, however I still have around 10-15 BMs a day and am having a super hard time finding the right diet.

Besides all that Im seeking advice on this pressure and urgency I am getting when I stand or walk around. I feel great sitting or laying down, but when Im up and walking around I have this pressure and constant urge to run to the loo. Its driving me crazy b/c I start back in school next week and work as a waiter so Im standing/walking all the time!

Also Im taking 1 Immodium every 6-8 hours and 1 Lomotil before meals and bed, any any advice as to what this could be or how to solve it would be super. Thanks!!

Hi James, I had the same problems with the urgency. Had a scope done about 4 months post TD and they found pouchitis. Still trying to get that cleared up, but as soon as they put me on the anti biotics it made a huge difference. I have been on Alinia and Cipro for about 6 weeks now and feeling pretty good.
Two months is still pretty early, you may want to change your diet. I ate alot of bagels, pasta, oatmeal and many bananna's. I really helped and I also did the lomotil and Imodium.
Diet is a big thing. Best of luck!

I had the same abcess problem after TD. it just took time and antibiotics for the feeling to subside. I ate bread and pretzels and avoided cheese.
Feel better.

hey james,
question- do you feel like if your pouch is bigger, or swollen, like bigger inside? I have felt this before and it's been pouchitis. or that it's not emptying right. When you go to the bathroom is it little bits each time, and watery? if this is the case then you're probably not emptying right either b/c of pouchitis or stricture. Good luck!!

Hey guys, thanks for your advice so far. Once the abcsess drained and I had taken all my Cipro and Flagyl my doc didnt see a need for me to continue taking any antibiotics. Also I do need to work on my diet and cut down on the sugar and dairy. Time to pick up on some bananas and oatmeal I suppose.

Caro, it does feel sometimes as though the pouch isnt emptying all the way or it is just little bits.

Other than this problem I feel fine, I figured if I had a stricture or pouchitis I might have more symptoms?

I guess if it's not that bad you shouldn't worry about it so much! Sometimes we become a little hypocondriac! Hope you feel better!

Hi James,
I can just hear people going: "OMG here she goes again, psyllium wafers...!" But yes, that's exactly what I'm going to recommend. They've made a big difference to me. The ones I make contain oats and psyllium seeds as well as psyllium husks and normal flour. You can get the recipe if you look up the thread "DIY Metamucil". Or of course, buy the real thing - Metamucil wafers - less hassle but pricier I imagine. Anyway, I don't know how the Metamucil wafers "feel" in your system, but my homemade ones seem to bind everything really well and make me feel like I've emptied completely when I go to the loo. It's like they've gently brushed through all the plumbing Smiler. I notice a huge difference if I've run out of them and have to bake a new batch - watery output,"bits" like Caro said, and urgency and burning.
