hi my pouch is unconnected. it was made a couple months ago. since then, 5-10 times a day i pass mucous and or blood through my rectum. i figure this is normal. but this morning i had several extremely urgent 'bowel movements' where i passed lots of this strange powdery-brown with blood in it stuff each time. still normal? my rectum kinda hurts a bit, and is uncomfortable.

I am also still "unconnected" and often pass mucous, sometimes even quite a bit of liquid. I have never had blood, though. Just a tiny bit probably is not a big deal, but if there was more than that, or this brown stuff (seems like that might be old blood) then I would check with your surgeon. You want to make sure the pouch is all good before you have that take-down.

Before I had my take down I went mountain biking, lots of jarring and the next day I had blood, mucus and urgency, I called my surgeon explained what I had done and he told me to rest and give it a week to heal, he fiqured that i had some how damaged my pouch. After a week of taking it easy it went a way, since my take don h has told me to stay away form sports that involve jarring until the summer, my take down was Jan 31st.

Not sure if this helps

My surgeon is Dr Andrew Seal, he has been excellent and has helped me understand that I have to chill, take it slow, I'm hyper by nature and love to downhill ride so I've had to give up riding off road for a while but I'm planning on starting up soon.

Also please remember this site is useful but the majority on this site are here because they are having problems, so you are reading mostly bad news. I limit my usage as I find it depressing and am tired off all the advise that some people like to hand out yet they aren't doctors.

If you want to talk let me know and I'll forward my number.
Don

I would call your surgeon if it is like "coffee grounds." I recall reading that I was to call if I ever passed something like that . . .

I am 6 months post takedown but while I was unconnected, I passed a lot of this same mucous everyday also 5-10 times per day. This mucous is just the natural digestive juices that your intestines produce and occurs in people who still have their rectum. I also had blood appear occassionally, which I was told by my surgeon is completely normal but can worsen with exercise or strenuous activity, so try to rest a little while. There were times where I had extreme urgency and passed more fluid than others but I was told it was all comepletely normal. I was unconnected for a total of 10 months due to complications and this mucous and bleeding did not affect my takedown whatsoever. Hope this helps and good luck!!
