Hello everyone! It's bee such a long time since I've been on here. It's good to catch up with everyone again. I've been having some major cramping and rumbling noises in my stomach. It only lasts for about 20 seconds, but it happens about 20-25 times a day. Does any body have any advice for this?
Thanks,
Heather

Could be pouchitis if accompanied by diarrhea. If not, my vote is for a partial obstruction.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Hi Nice, I am so glad you asked this question because I wasn't sure if anyone was experiencing the gurgling and movement within my abdomen area like I do. My rumblings are so loud that I get embarrassed. Sometimes it just goes on for hours and it gets down right irritating like something is pestering you.
I believe the medical term is "peristalsis." I have a j pouch and this has been a situation that has driven me crazy and it's good to here someone else suffers with it too. Not that I would wish this on anyone.

Hi,
I get gurgling and lots of movement when I eat foods that are heavy on refined sugar and flour. When I eat fruits, veggies, kefir, yogurt and other healthy foods, there is no noise or strong peristalsis. This could be a form of irritable pouch syndrome. One of my friends get irritable bowel syndrome if she its too many refined carbs and this could be similar.

hey nice,

I get the rumbling like you do, sometimes accompanied with pain. they can kill a romantic moment for sure. there are times that you can actually see where the gas "bubble" or whatever would pass through my pouch from the outside. my abdomen will just get very inflated for a second when the rumbling comes, and then it's gone.

like jan said, you have to differentiate the difference between an obstruction and anything else. because even a partial bowel obstruction can land you on multiple ER trips and believe me, they're painful. if it's accompanied by diarrhea, then it's a pouchitis issue (gotta love jan, she's always on the ball!)

I take NuLev for the gas cramps. it gives you terrible dry mouth, but it's worth it. at night, I'll take bentyl if the gas pains are keeping me up. it mellows you out and will help you sleep. not to mention, I take lomotil (the prescription imodium, in a nutshell). any combo of those meds should do the trick, if it's NOT an obstruction. definitely talk to your GI/surgeon. let us know what's up. feel better, stay strong!

step 3(8/6/03) ileos. takedown; April '07: Surgery to fix partial b.o., that lasted 5 months, due to adhesions.
