Hi guys
Yesterday I had what I think was a blockage.
In the morning I had 2 loperamide in quick succession as well as a small bowl of museli.
By lunchtime I was started getting slight cramps. I had lunch - I was visiting friends and couldn't get out of it. (It was chilli - so I had a v small portion) Anyway cramps got progressively worse ( i had no BM's all day) finally I ended up by the evening suffering with dirrohea and vomiting. After two hours I was better - just feeling washed out.
So the question is - what do I eat / do today?
Should I resume loperamide? I'm drinking lots of water and have had diolaryte.
I don't know if it was a blockage - caused by museli or by too much loperamide?
All advice/ thoughts welcome
Maddy

Hi Maddy,

I think it was probably a combination of the three. Museli and chillie will cause me to have a blockage as it's hard to fully digest. Have you noticed whether you have passed any of the museli yet or any of the kidney beans from the chilli?

I would stay off the Loperamide for now. Don't have any solids today, just stay on fluids. The dioralyte is a good idea but make sure it isn't the new one that has rice flour in it as that will thicken things up also. It's great for when you need to thicken your stool but not good if you have a blockage.

As a point of reference, it's time to go to A&E when you start throwing up and have uncontrollable pain with a blockage so you were very lucky that it passed before you got too dehydrated. Should the pain and nausea return I would definately get down to the hospital.

Good luck.

Cool Shell Cool

One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! Wink

When blockage occurs, I sit in a hot bath, turn on some soft music, one or two vicodin extra strength. Lay on bed, roll side to side, pull legs to chest, sit on all fours with chest on ground, start cussing, pray, sweat and vomit. Have the cats sit on my stomach, ouch, go for a walk, and finally dance as if no one is looking!

Hi
Thanks v much for the advice Shell and Arthur.
Yesterday I stuck to liquids and ate only rice cakes and boiled rice . I feel heaps better today and have come back to work.
I took one loperamide this morning and my stomach started to feel like it was getting some cramps - so I'm going to continue taking it easy on the food / medicine. With hindsight I think this incident had been brewing for some time.
Thanks again for the support / advice.
I'm off now to dance as if no one is looking!
Maddy
