I go on a clear liquid diet the evening before (starting at 7PM if my appointment is in the morning). That's the only prep I've ever done since having my J Pouch.

I took mag citrate prior to my pouchogram (a small amount, like 3 or 6 oz). Haven't had my post surgery scope yet, but I'm sure I'll have the same. It just cleans everything out well for the best look at everything. Even my GI here never had me do enemas because they can be irritating. Even though the mag citrate is annoying to drink (YUK) I think it's worth it for a good picture.

My daughter has a scope on Tuesday the 27th. The preparation for her is no food after midnight. Since her procedure is late in the day she is allowed to have clear liquids until 11am of the same day as the procedure. She also is not connected yet. She's had several pouch studies and when they don't put her under anestesia she is even allowed "a lite breakfast." But like I said she is not connected.

It depends on the scope. I have my pouch scoped through a sigmoidoscope and never need any prep. A pouchoscopy is different.

As far as I know, pouchoscopy is always a sigmoidoscope. They don't need a 5 foot scope to look less than a foot inside. They may book it as a colonoscopy because you want sedation and they need a special room for that (such as an OR suite), whereas the sigmoidoscopy generally does not require sedation and is done in an endoscopy room. Prep varies from doctor to doctor. Plus, sometimes the doctor does not tell the scheduling nurse that this is not the standard colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy. When in doubt, you should always call back and get clarification, rather than rely on us. By the way, my doc has me do the mag citrate too, but I don't have to drink the whole thing. Jan
Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

I never had to prep before my scope. I fasted before the first one because I thought the nurse made a mistake, but my surgeon said it wasn't necessary.

Thanks for all the input, I have a call in to the Dr for clarification. I was worried about cramping, and HIGH output, but if others have had it without severe effects, I should be ok.
Again, thanks for the feedback. Jennifer

I had to take a little mag citrate as well before my scope(s). Prep wasnt the same when I had to go get the pouchogram done (the one with the Xray) that one was just an enema.
