i am almost 4 weeks out from step 1. i was in hospital for 3 weeks from bad infections and finally home. i am down to one antibiotic until tuesday through an IV. it is Zosyn. could that be making me nauseas? its like i have an appetite but as soon as i start eating, i get nauseas. could this be from the antibiotic? i will call my doctor tomorrow to ask.

It could be the antibiotics, but it could also be your bowel still waking up. When you get naseaus, how big of a meal have you eaten? If you eat too much in one sitting, it might get hung up and make you feel sick.

This happened to me for the first three or four weeks. I would try smaller meals and see if that helps.

If you already eat smaller meals, well, a call to your dr. may be in order.

Good luck.

I had lots of trouble with nausea after my first surgery and it seems to have been due to dehydration. I am now getting saline via IV at home (1 liter a day) and it makes a world of difference.

I had horrendous nausea after my 1st step. Zofran helped A LOT. But by the time I got hold of it I had lost so much weight my liver started to play up. I had to slowly eat my way up to a normal weight. What worked for me when my nausea was at its worst was stuff that didn't smell strongly, but that tasted good. Avocado, grated carrot with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, banana....these were my staples for a while until I built up enough strength to gain an appetite. Get your sodium and magnesium levels checked, as well as iron and blood count. If these are out of balance they can make you feel pretty lousy.

Flagyl makes me nauseous but I kind of like the feeling because if I can live through NOT throwing up, it keeps my appetite in check! It's about the only thing that does.

I was very nauseous for 3-4 wks after my first surgery. Everytime I ate I would try to walk around a tiny bit and then I'd go sit in our Lay-Z-boy and breathe deeply trying to ignore the discomfort. I ate slowly and only tiny portions. I actually found that if I ate standing up I felt better. Eventually the nausea went away. I was not on any drugs though so if that is contributing to it for you then hopefully it gets better soon. Take care Smiler

I'll walk this winding road into the great unknown.

Hi.. I had my 1st surgery 6 weeks ago today. I did have an obstruction early on, which I haven't quite fully recovered from (in terms of volume I can eat). I typically feel nauseous in the morning when I wake up.. It isn't horrible unless I force myself to eat. It usually goes away by lunch time. I also feel a little nauseous sometimes if I exert myself right after I eat. For example, I went for a walk tonight right after I ate - I felt a little queasy on the way home. I am not on any meds either (except Immodium) - hope this helps!

I had alot of nausea after all 3 of my surgeries, but I found the 2nd step to be the worst....it was horrible! I had no appetite whatsoever and the idea of eating food grossed me out. I had to force myself to eat but after a month things quickly got back to normal. I lost 25 pounds in that period of time. It was weird, I couldnt eat if I wanted to one week, and the next I couldnt stop stuffing my mouth lol
