The Vicodin may be to blame for the bleeding. When I took them after my surgery they tore my stomach apart. Try and switch to Darvocets. They're much more gentle and do the trick. I always ask for them instead of Vicodin. But make sure with your doctor.I'm just speaking from my experience.

Marrianes, you might have inflammation in the remaining rectal stump that could be causing the bleeding. That might explain why the antibiotics don't seem to be helping because typical treatments for this are different.

I've had blood occasionally, and my surgeon said not to be too concerned about it because I have a stricture near the anus, and he thinks that it gets irritated. However, severe pouchitis can cause bleeding, too, like UC did, but usually the stool is also watery and not formed at all. To be safe, call your GI. Let us know how it works out.

The fact that you have new bleeding after taking a new antibiotic to me is very suspicious for the antibiotic as the cause. Alinia is not your typical antibiotic because it is an antiprotozoan (for Giardia and Cryptosporidium). GI bleeding is not listed as one of the reported adverse reactions, but since you have a known sensitivity to other antibiotics, to me it makes sense to err on the side of caution. I would stop the drug and call your doctor. You may also have cuffitis (inflammation of the rectal cuff) which is the usual cause of bleeding with a j-pouch. The fact that it occurred at the same time as taking Alinia may be coincidental. Treatment for that would be mesalamine or hydrocortisone suppositories, not antibiotics. Jan
Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Now I'm not laughing at anyone but myself here. I just looked at the topic of this post and I thought it said: - BLOND in stool for first time.
I couldn't figure out how a blond got in your stool. signed blond kathy
