I had my one-step Total Colectomy in July 2000. As I have mentioned before on this board, I take 120mg of codeine 3X daily to slow down my output. I have been doing so since around January of 2001.

Last Friday, I began experiencing very intense migraine headaches and vomiting. This cycle repeated itself for 3 more days. Today is the 5th day, and after various trips to the hospital which included an MRI, 2 CT Scans, X-rays and an assortment of other treatments, I'm still not out of the woods. The nausea and headaches seem to be under control for the time being with medication.

It's been a complete frustration as this has never really happened to me before and the doctors can't seem to explain the cause or give it a diagnosis. I am not sure if it is related to my j-pouch or not. Perhaps, someone could advise of a similar situation? Thanks as always...

I have no idea to help you but wanted to let you know that I sympatize with you! Migraines and vomiting is no fun at all!

My guess is that the migraines are completely unrelated to your j-pouch. Just because you never had migraines before, it does not mean you cannot develop them at any time. My husband never had migraines, then began developing them when he was around 49. Stuff happens. The main thing is to rule out tumors and other terrible things, then just try to find the most effective treatment.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

I get terrible migraines since this surgery.
So far nothing is working and a lot of meds for migraines I can't take cause I also take an anti-depressant. I hope you do better than me. It gets worse every year. Going to see the doctor again this week for it.

Silly question time???? Do you use diet drinks and aspartame???? I just read a 22 page ariticle on the side effects of its use and abuse and headaches, blurry vision, nausea and a whole lot of other really bad stuff comes from its use and abuse...seems that there are lobbies trying to get it taken off of the market too, so you might want to check your intake....also, you can develop food alergies at any time especially after a shock so get yourself tested for them if possible...or keep a food diary...it may be a good key and won't hurt when you go see your doctor again...
