Hi friends,

I am looking for some advice about ostomy products. I have had an ileo for almost 6 years. During this time I have worn Hollister products exclusively. Lately, I have had way too many problems with leakage under the wafer or holes in the pouch at pressure points. I am still working as a teacher and accidents are not an option. I need to try another more reliable products. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Maria

try convtec durahesive and stomahesive or their moldable th durahesive is 413155 the stomahesive is 401575 or their moldable 404593. the number may vary according to your stoma size. The pouch I like that goes with it is 413334. If you call convatec they will send samples.

Maria, prior to my husband's take down he too wore Hollister and had some the same issues. Call all supplies and tell the ostomy rep what problem you are encountering and they will send you products to fit your need. Convetec is really helpful.

Coloplast is also helpful and I have had great success with the products. They will send you samples of all kinds to try. I use a convex wafer with paste and can wear one for at least 5-6 days. I also use paste to make sure I ger a good fit so there is no leakage under the wafer. That hurts!! and leads to failure.

i yse Coloplast, covex wafer with paste to prevent leakage underneath. The representatives are great and will send sample to try. I use a large capacity bag at night. Only major failure has been when I fail to clamp the bag on the wafer. What a mess that makes.

Maria,

Have you tried using Eakin seal? I always had a leakage problem when I first had my temporary ileo and I was told to try Eakin seal with Holister convex type. Stretch Eakin seal to barely fit the stoma, then apply the bag over it, press it down and apply body heat from your hand or use blow dryer over it. I never had any leakage problem after that.

When I used Hollister products, an elastic belt from Hollister that attached right to my wafer was a lifesaver.

Have you recently gained/lost weight? I noticed as I started to gain weight after surgery, the wafer fit differently.

My WOC nurse said she had a patient who had been using the same system for years, when he came in with problems, he had gained 50lbs since he first got his ileo. As your body shape changes, so do they supplies you need.

I agree with everyone else, call the various suppliers and ask for samples. Can your doc refer you to a local WOC nurse? It might be time for a new 'fitting'.

Surgery was the best decision I made!
