Hellos I have endo which I found out while I was in the hospital getting my colon taken out. Well anyway cramps are so severe, tylenol does not do the trick. Can we take Advil being almost a month post op. Gyn can not do anything until I am healed 100%. Doesn't that stink..

There have been studies at Cleveland Clinic that indicate that if you take NSAIDs during the post op period following j-pouch surgery, you are at a higher risk of developing chronic pouchitis. So, if you are in the early months of surgery, you should hold off on the Advil. Otherwise, as long as you tolerate it without IBD flares or other GI upsets, it is fine.

In the meantime, Vicodin and antispasmotics may be what you need.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Yes, Lortab is the same as Vicodin- tylenol and hydrocodone.

Narcotic, good stuff. If it does not stop the cramping, ask for an antispasmotic, such as Bentyl or Levsin.

I don't know whether I have endo (my mom did until she had her hysterectomy) but my periods are exceedingly painful. I take tramacet (trazodone and tylenol) and 6 per day will taek care of the pain.

We (OB/GYN and I) thought I had endo until I had a diagnsotic lap; now doc says I must just excrete a larger than average amount of prostaglandins with my periods b/c they are h*ll! I have all the symptoms - pain/cramping from back through legs, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, etc. I am basically in bed for a week! So doc put me on birth control pills back-to-back (skip the sugar pill) for six months at a time, so I only get two periods/year. When I do, I take Percocet (similar to Vicodin or Lortab but a little stronger - oxycodone and acetaminophen instead of hydrocodone and acetaminophen) and hyoscamine, an antispasmodic which helps with the cramps (I use this for my UC). I also take immodium and use a heating pad on back/belly as needed. I stay away from NSAIDs as I still have a colon and have UC.

If you aren't looking to have children in the near future and can take birth control pills (don't have risk factors/health issues where they are contraindicated) that option may be worth discussing with your doctor. Even when you do get a period, they tend to be lighter and cramps less painful when on the pill.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I was going to go on the pill, but I do not have a colon anymore, so I am not sure how mucj of it I would absorb. They tried the patch and it did not work. So now I have the take down and I am ready to get this other problem under control .I have two girls, I think I might ask him to go in and laser off some of the endo. That will by me some time before I have to have another major surgery.
