Please, I am fighting down panic...
This afternoon I began having some pain again, anal pain, just like it was a couple of weeks ago with the pouchitis or c.diff. or whatever it was, when the scope showed a huge ulcer right at the cuff/anus. The pain isn't too bad yet, but this is how everything started off back in August (for the first disputed round of pouchitis). My frequency is not up; metamucil is helping with the runniness issue, and I'm not having any spasms. Still on the 250 mg Flagyl 2x a day. I AM having my period, which always makes things a bit more runny/frequent and I do sometimes get a sore bum.... But I'm just suspicious now, especially because the pain is in the same exact spot, and I'm really, really trying hard not to freak out.... What do I do? See if it gets worse? Any treatment for anal/pouch ulcerations? Call my surgeon? I'm scheduled to see him the 1st, but if this gets worse I'm not sure I should wait, especially if there is c.diff. involved... By answering, your topic will get higher on the list, so I'm hoping Jan sees this. She knows a lot more about this than I do. I had stomach ulcers and Crohn's of the pouch. From what I know, it can take months of antibiotics for pouchitis. I was on Flagyl about 2 weeks, then felt worse, so my GI doc put me on Cipro for about 2 months more. It finally got under control. If the pain is really really bad and worse than before, you should call your GI doc. Well wishes to you.

Since you were positive for C. difficile toxin and recently reduced your Flagyl dose, I would call your surgeon and ask about increasing the dose back to where it was when your symptoms were improving. I would not mess around with it and wait for it to get worse. Of course, I know your surgeon is skeptical about the C. diff infection, but this is not like a religion that you have to believe in, just a cold, hard fact.
Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |
