Hello,

I usually don't worry about feeling crappy but I thought I'd run this by you guys and see what you think.

(I have a temp loop ostomy) Over the last day or so my ostomy output has been very very watery, in fact I need to empty my bag about every hour because its filling up so quickly. I also have a nasty headache and feel dizzy and out of it. I just want to lay down and sleep, I just don't feel like myself. A little shortness of breath too.

No fever, no upset stomach and I'm eating OK...

What the heck is wrong????

I will note that I just recently got over a cold and siunus infection, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks,

6M$S

Sounds like you are dehydrated. Eat some salty stuff and try to get some extra electrolytes. It could be a bug, but dehydration can wipe you out too. I'd also add extra immodium and whatever else you take to help out.

Hope you feel better!

Hi Bill, I agree with Lori, it sounds like dehydration. Try some of the purple vitamin water, it's full of potassium and magnesium. The ostomy nurse told me I should drink one to two bottles a day to replace what I lose. I can actually feel the difference if I don't drink it.

When I was using my pouch, I would have days that I would get bad headaches and feel so weak and tired, my eyesight would get blurry too. It took me a while, but I finally figured it out that it was from dehydration.

Hope you feel better soon,

janna

You guys must be right. Since writing this I've downed a bit of Gatorade and I'm starting to feel better! And Janna, yes, my vision was blurry too.

My ostomy output has been realtivly consistant since my reversal back in July. In fact, today was the first day since before my surgery I took immodium (I'm a bit bummed about that...) Why all the sudden am I having this constant watery output? I could understand if I had the Flu or a bug, but I have no symtoms that would point to that.

Thanks for the help!

Have you been eating regularly as well? My output gets like that if I haven't eaten enough and as the others have said, if I'm dehydrated. On the bright side...I don't really have to drink the nasty stuff they give you to clean you out before a procedure; I get cleaned out by not eating Smiler
As a side note, I just wanted to say that you crack me up! I always love your outlook on everything; you seem to have fun and laugh a lot. And by doing so, you make others laugh and smile too Smiler

Just like those with healthy colons, our digestive process can get out of whack every now and then. Drink plenty and eat thickening foods and I be things return to normal soon.

could you have a partial blockage?

When I had a loop ostomy I had a partial blockage one evening and I was literally emptying a full bag of liquid at least once an hour until it resolved itself.

Keep an eye on the dehydration, and don't be afraid to go to the ER for fluids if you are having a hard time keeping up with it.

Bill, you could actually have the stomach bug that is going around...I had the same issues you describe in December and needed to go the ER twice for IV fluids and once where I had them keep me overnight and give me lomotil to slow things down. I didn't feel fluish and was able to eat, but just had really high output.

My son had the stomach bug at the same time which is how I figured out that that was my issue too. Norovirus is running rampant in MA right now...

I woke up today with a splitting headache a cough and my sinus's are bloody. I guess my cold / sinus infection is back... Maybe that is why my output has been so much lately?

The Dr. put me on Biaxin for the cold two weeks ago; he felt that Biaxin wouldn’t affect my output too much. It didn't until I finished the 10 day run, that is when everything got watery.

I called him this morning, not sure what he is going to do but I need to kick this cold! I picked it up a few weeks ago; it felt like it was gone last week. But now its back!

I've has enough problems with my ass... I don't need this...

BLAH!

Hi Bill,

Well at least you have something to attribute the watery stools to. Not much comfort when you're sinuses are killing you though! Frowner

I hope you feel better soon. Remember to keep on top of the dehydration.

Take care Smiler

Hi Bill, sorry you have been feeling yucky. I think you mentioned you were on antibiotics? IS it possible you have c-diff? Just a thougth since antibiotic use contributes to that. When my daughter tested postitive for c-diff, they told her to take culturelle as well as flagyl. SHe is better now but still takes the culturelle. They recommend culturelle for everyone while on antibiotics. Especially us with butt issues!
Feel better.
