Lori.....when I used Skin Bond, I never had to use an adhesive remover to remove the wafer and/or residue. I just pushed my skin away from the wafer and then used a warm hair dryer while I balled up the residue of the skin bond with my finger tip....not, fingernail. It worked for me. I also didn't have to wait until my irritated skin healed. By coating the irritated skin with the thick part of the liquid antacid and drying the area, the skin was protected and on its way to healing.

Hello there Jason and people...
I did try what you recommended...used the hollister medical adhesive spray, but i dont know what went wrong...I think my skin is too sensible and got all irritated right at the area where I sprayed the adhesive, I already got the body cement but I'm scared to use it...
I don't know what to do at this point...

Regards,

marifv

Coloplast makes an "extra" convex bag which was what finally worked for me. Used the Hollister convex and they worked fine....for a while.

After I started using the coloplast, my stoma lengthened. Don't know if it was from the bag or a coincidence.

Good luck, I remember those days of hell when my stoma was flush.

I know you're afraid to try new things, but unless you try you won't know if they work for you or not. So try the 'cement' (is that Ilex you're talking about?) and see if it helps. Also, things change over time so things that cause you problems now may not cause problems later. And vice versa. It can take a while to figure out what works for you. I hope you find the solution quickly!

All I can say is I am so glad I remembered this post from July b/c I've just started to burn around the stoma (4 weeks post op w/ temp ileo). I remembered b/c at the time it didn't apply to me, but at the time I thought about JasonPA's breakdown to put on the bag that this is serious business. Now, I understand all too well. THANK YOU FOR THIS SITE!

I've posted in Ostomy and Skin a request to find out where you all buy your supplies from online, if you have any recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it.

Mark

MFV - My skin is a wrck all the time. I use a prescription prduct called "Luxiq". Its wonderful and really helps the skin. Ask your doc to prescribe it for you. It made a HUGE difference for me.

PS I have a permanent ileostomy 'cause my j-pouch failed after 17 yrs.

Hello MFV,

Jason has said it all... One more suggestion for the peaceful change of bag:

  • Eat your dinner before 7 pm the day prior to the 'CHANGEOVER' day, and let it be a light dinner, mostly eating thickening foods like bananas.

In good time you'll reach a comfort level with these irritants. Trial & Error Method .... as Kathy says.

    Good Luck!

I have been treating a rash around my stoma with Columbia Antiseptic powder instead of stoma powder. I bought it at the CC pharmacy but can be ordered through any pharmacy I would think.
The rash is much improved but hasn't 100% cleared I think because of moisture ( I wear a pad for my Kpouch stoma.
This powder was recommended by my ET and would have sprayed something over it if i was wearing an external appliance.

At the pharmacy this stuff was less than $4.00 so it may be worth a try.
