Hi all. I've had a j-pouch for 2 1/2 years with no problems. Smiler For the last 2 months, I've been suffering with a terrible case of rosacea which has not responded whatsoever to Minocycline antibiotics. Went back to my dermatologist yesterday and he prescribed a stronger antibiotic -- EryTab, which is in the erithromycin family. When I reminded him that I don't have a colon, he paused and frowned -- always a bad sign. He said this antibiotic can cause gastritis and diarrhea, so to proceed "cautiously." Naturally, I'm pretty reluctant to start taking it. Does anyone have any experience with this particular antibiotic? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Lisa

Sorry I am not much help but was hoping to send this back to the top so Jan can see it and maybe give you more of a professionl answer. All antibiotics have those symptoms listed as side effects and most folks do fine on different antibiotics prescribed for other things other than jpouch related. If you need something to help with something else then I agree to proceed with caution and if it doesnt feel right you can discontinue it, hopefully without too much discomfort.

There is no way to find out how you tolerate it without trying it. You just have to be willing to stop treatment if you develop side effects you can't tolerate. It would not be a permanent thing, so I would not worry about it.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Hi Lisa, Have you tried Finacea Gel, I also have a slight case of rosacea, and because of surgery, I opted not to try the antibiotics. The gel seemed to work, and has kept it under control.

Lisa I just had the same exact experience with my doc,she gave me amoxicillin for a chest cold/sorethroat. Her advice was to try it and see how bad it effects you, so I did and to my surprise it actually slowed me down, what a great side effect. I have found that the penicillin family of antibiodics really don't cause any negative side effects, not sure if erithromycin will be the same. So my advice is give it a try and see what hapens. Good Luck Scott Mc

By the way, I use Metrogel for my rosacea. Seems to work OK, but mine was pretty mild.
