I was told due to taking this for the last 5yrs that was my incontience problem at night taking imodium and Pepto. my surgeon and last Gi had me taking like candy .
My new Gi did a scope and found I had blockages due to that stuff and was casuing liquid at night to go around the stool and cause it I do notice since I stopped it it is not as bad I still have some but no where near as bad. So taking long term imodium for people with night incontience can be bad go figure I found out first hand and never would of thought that. So basically if you going to the bathroom alot watch your diet eat a little not as much no milk at all and have your GI / surgeon help with the irgency's (sp) and you should be ok I noiced a differnce after 2yrs by following this. Also do not take any imodium or pepto this applies to anyone that may have long term incontience give it a try...I know not taking it make u wanan go to the bath room more but thats why you have to have a GI give you something else to slow Bm's besides imodium as I found it causes more incomtience at night. I swear this is the best Gi I been to in 5yrs she has been on the right track for many problems where no others could fix it so if you have that problem try it.. STEP 1 SEPT 20 2006 STEP2 MARCH 14 2007 UC JULY 16 2003 hernia scar revision and more march 22nd 2008 end up being step 1 all over again resections . may 10th infection in wound had to have surgey to open me back up sept 10th perma ostemy STEP2 to be continued! |

I am glad you are getting some of your issues resolved and have a GI who is proactive.

Jeffm Good post, very informative, I am going on 6 years and doing very well, I figured out very early on the side effects of imodium, I am sure there are those who really need it and that it is very helpful to them but I think for the most part, the majority should "Just say No"I personaly think it is the cause of many problems I read about on this forum, Early on, I did some research on getting and mantaining a healthy pouch, The reacurring message was to keep a clean, empty pouch, and I have no idea how this could be obtained taking imodium. if this meant going to the bathroom a few more times a day at first, well, so be it, The theory being, in time, other bodly systems would step up and assume some of the colons function. I'm not the "Brightest Bulb" on the tree but it really made sence to me, I have no Idea how many times I go to the bathroom each day, (so few I do not count) my stool is formed fairly well, (most of the time) sometimes I eat the wrong thing and I pay for it, I get BB once in awhile, and I still get the IIIITTTTTTCCCCCHHHH, but time is taking care of these also I am a very pleased with the outcome. I want to make it very clear that I know we are all different and what works for one may not work for others. but I think you are "Right on" with this Imodium thing. I read a lot about people haveing the operation, popping a few Imodium, and getting back to work in a couple of weeks, Now, is that a plan for disaster. or what??. Again, good post, Den ps please forgive my spelling.
We all gave some, Some gave all. anonymous |
