My last hernia was back in 2002. There is some debate as to whether I have one or not but gosh it sure feels like it..I have been having pain and burning sensation all night long. It's driving me nuts but I can't remeber if I have to do something about it...Except take my pain meds..Of course I have to get them refilled today...
Pushing on it hurts...It's located above my old stoma site by a inch or so
help!

Julie,

I got a hernia in 2005 and you are going to laugh at how it happened. I was with a ladyfriend and decided to pick her up and carry her from a chair to the bed. Although she weighs only 120 pounds or so on a 5'8" frame, and I weigh 185, I felt an immediate twinge. It started hurting about a day later and my doctor felt it and said we'll keep an eye on it. Eventually it died down and I did not need surgery or anything. My doctor told me not to pick up any women any more. Roll Eyes

This is really a medical question for your doctor. The hernia should be examined by your doctor and a proper course of treatment outlined. It could be anything from nothing to surgery. Good luck.

Thanks DJB..
The pain has finally subsided. I got my first hernia by pulling a old window a/c through tall grass and weeds on a hand truck..Go figure, I was pulling not lifting. It became inmmediately incarcerated requiring emergency surgery, which of course then became infected and resulted in me staying another month of 2002 in the hospital on a wound-vac...Hence my concern for this one. I already have mesh and I don't want to go that emergency route ever again! After a total of 3 of those things, all resulting in infection, I don't want to play the game!!
It looks like I'll be OK, thank god!
Now all I gotta do is look out my window and see all that darn smoke from the fires in the area..Not really near me but boy I can't even see the hills tha are less than a 1/2 m away, that's how smokey it is...The Sun is bleary yellow. orange....I guess I won't have to smoke any cigs today..I'll get enough smoke fomr the fires..

I would take it easy physically for a while. That is what I was told to do.

As far as the mechanism of your first injury, I have a very close friend who is a special agent for the FBI, who herniated a lumbar disc in his back picking up the 10 pound newborn baby of another friend. This guy is physically fit and in outstanding shape and needs to be for his job. Just goes to show that our bodies sometimes react in strange ways to seemingly minimal physical stress.

10 lb. baby huh?? Poor guy! Man I bet that baby grew up with a weight complex Big Grin...Sorry, I don't mean to make light of it, but I couldn't resist.
In 2004 or so I went back to work working in a wine wharehouse. I was lifting 40 lb boxes of wine and 50 lb boxes of champaigne...sometimes up above my shoulders and never had a problem. I was loading trucks, running forklifts and as you can imagine in very good shape. I did that for over 6 mo.....
I'll never be able to do that again...I'll never be able to work full time againFrowner
At least with my part time job that I have now I can see that, and you know what? I was bothered by it at first, frustrated I guess, but now I'm alright with it. The job I have now is a true challenge in many ways. Trying to get people to meet the state and federal safety guidlines is like pulling wisdom teeth...No one wants to...And everyone wants to kill the messenger! lol
