Is this all from vitamin D deficiency?

As of late I have had significant fatigue, joint and muscle aches, low back pain, neck pain, head ache and pressure within eyes. Also blurry vision. I have had blood test done with everything okay except really low in vitamin D.
GP wants me to take supplements for six months. I have only just started on the supplements. How long until it ends? Only on 1000 iu daily. could this all be from lack of vitamin D?

When I was low on vitamin D my doctor had me take 50,000 units once a week for 3 weeks and then 5,000 or 10,000 daily until it went back up. Also did they check your B-12? We can have absorbtion problems and are more prone to be lower in B12 than others.

Do you ever get sinus, migraine, or tension head aches.

You could have several things contributing to your pain. Fibromilgia, chronic fatigue, low thyroid or Insomnia. I suspose they checked your thyroid.

Maybe a chiropractor could help your back.

Those are what popped in my head and you've probaly considered them all.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. Cool

I agree with toughenough about B12. Make sure you are within range for B12. Taking extra B12 can't hurt, so you may want to take some anyway. As for Vit D, I take 4000 IU every day even though I am well within normal range. There are several studies showing benefits of vit D. My Doctor suggessted taking 5000 IU a day.
I hope you feel better soon.

I have been having the same issues of late. I went to the hospital on 11/1 for fluids after a 24+ hour bought w diarrhea. They ran a test and I was not low on Vit D... I was wondering if others have experienced these symptoms: fatigue, soreness of joints (neck, back, hips, ankles, shoulders, fingers), diarrhea (at least 1-2x daily), hemorrhoids, constant gas.

Also I feel the need to go to the restroom once every 1-2.5 hours. Is this all normal for a person 4 months post closure op? These symptoms have been present for over a month. I don't know what to do.

nhandy - Have you seen your doctor since your ER visit? With your low D your doctor might want to give you a mega amount for a few weeks. I don't know what is normal for 4 weeks as there was a big incisional hernia making things bad. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I am sorry I should clarify a few things:
I am four months removed from my final surgery, I have blood in my stool from my hemmoroids I think, I do not have a Vit D deficiency. I thought it was interesting that I had similar symptoms though. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced similar discomfort/ problems in the months following their procedures.

Sorry I misunderstood about the vit D. From what I've read others go back to work and come home and pretty much crash due to everything you are discussing. Our bodies have to work hard to repair themselves. I've had other abdominal surgery before but it was nothing like this recovery.

The blood in your stool bothers me because it might be due to cuffitis. You might want to get that checked out. Some blood is normal right after the surgery but it has been 4 months. I thought for years the blood in my stool was due to hemmorids only to find out it was untreated UC. Confused

Hi toughenough,

I think that you are right about increasing the dose. I've already increased it to 2000 IU. I will ask my doctor if he thinks that I can increase it further.
And funny you should mention sinus problems. I've had alot of sinus issues and migraines. I know that my thyroid is okay, not sure about the B12, but I will look into this.
Also have been treated by a chiro, however last treatment it felt like my chest was caving in. (hurt soo bad for three days from an ajustment between shoulder blades)
My docter may be sending me to a rhematologist to see if I may have Fibro as well.

Thanks for all the replies. It gives me hope.

Hi beucfree

I've been reading that almost 50 percent of north americans are deficient in vitamin d to some degree or another. Most of which don't even know it. Sounds like a good excuse to move to Hawaii...ah...as if. Oops caught myself dreaming.

Moving won't necessarily help. I live in sunny California, am frequently outdoors, do not wear sunscreen, and I have been D deficient for 2 years. Many of my CA friends are D deficient. And to complicate it further, medical science doesn't even really know how much we need. I have been taking 2000IU every day for the past year and am curious what this year's CBC will tell.

FYI
The chiropracter I go to is an Atlas Chiropra tor. She did additional schooling after shed graduated from regular chiro school. She dosn't do the traditional snap, crakle and pop adjustments and gets the job done.

She also has her bachelors degree majoring in nutrition and she takes 5,000 units of vit D a day.
