just wondering if anyone can help me. i have had an ileostomy about 8wks ago and waiting for pouch formation surgery. i have been reading lots on this site about fissures and fistulas and am worried that this is something that comes with having a pouch. i have been lucky so far in that i have not had any of this and hope i never will. they sound awful and i feel dreadfully sorry for anyone who has to live with them. i was diagnosed with crohns 10 years ago, then another GI said interminate colitis and now following my colectomy the surgeon thinks its uc?? would love to hear peoples thoughts on this. i am worried that having the jpouch will create lots of other problems that i have not had. tx..d

I believe that you shouldn't worry about all the things that COULD happen to you. There are problems that come with having a Jpouch but there are problems that come with "normal" functioning people as well and we can't just sit around wondering which problems we might get. If you get the problems, then you address them, but worrying about them before they happen doesn't do your health now any good. Everyone is different and will face different problems. Don't let worrying about all the things that could happen to you hold you back, otherwise we'd never leave the house.

absolutely and i agree.. i really just want to inform myself of the possible side effects of jpouch surgery so i know what could potentially happen. i just dont want any nasty surprises. i am not really the kind of person to dwell on the negatives....thankfully. thanks for your advice though.
