I had my pouch surgery in 2000 but just this past year I have had problems with my cuff. I have more frequent stools and have had more problems with urgency. The medications that the doctor had me try have not been effective so now I am looking at surgery. The doctor told me that there is a small chance that there may not be enough material to reconnect to the pouch and if that happens I am stuck forever with a bag. The complicating factor is that since my surgery I have not been able to get my weight down so I am floating at about 250 at five foot nine. How worried should I be that I will end up with a bag for the rest of my life if there is a problem advancing the pouch?

How high is the chance that for whatever the reason there won't be enough material to advance the pouch? This is my greatest fear since I had a really bad experience when I had the temporary Ileostomy.

I am very narrow waisted. My surgeon was a bit concerned about not having enough stretch to get there. Turned out he was able to manipulate my loop ostosmy in order to get the needed length.

Overall, everything went very well. Do not worry.
