Ok, it looks like a lot of you were right after all. I went to see my doctor today about something else and mentioned that my leg was still a little sore from what I thought to be shin splints. She took one look at it and said no I do have Cellulitis! Frowner So now I'm on Co-Amoxiclav for 5 days.

I honestly only mentioned it because the leg is still a little red but it is MUCH better than it was. She said that although my body has been fighting it without the antibiotics it could flare up and become very problematic at any time so it was best to treat it now rather than wait until it became serious.

Thanks so much for all your advice, I promise that next time I'll listen to you all and get it checked out asap. Wink

Hi Shell,
Nice chatting to you last week!
So glad you had this checked out and diagnosed so you can get it treated. Hope the meds zap it fast.

Wow Shell! Not sure how I missed this thread. I am glad you got to the doc and got on some antibiotics. Hopefully you will be up and race walking back to work again soon. Do they have any idea how this started?

Say hi to Frank for us!

Soph, It was really great chatting to you too the other night, heaven only knows how you managed to get up the next morning because it was gone 1:00 am my time when we said goodnight! Big Grin

Tricia, I'm so glad that your hip surgery went so well. I'll bet you are really glad that it's all behind you. SmilerI actually went to the doctor with a long list of minor ailments so was really lucky that it was picked up by my doctor. As for what caused it, well I just started feeling some pain in my shin as I was walking to work. I have no idea what started it because there is no sign of any superficial injury. We have been getting some mosquitos coming into the flat again because the weather's been warm and damp so it's possible that I was bitten by one without realising.

My leg has improved dramatically with the antibiotics but I feel I could actually start a new thread on the Rave and Rant forum with a big whinge with everthing else that's going on right now. Frowner

Anyway, enough of the Pity Party for now! Roll Eyes

Thanks again for everyone's concern. Smiler

Hi Shell,

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but I delt with it a few years back. I started get red spots on my shins and they were VERY painful. I too could hardly walk. Look up a problem called "Eurythema Nodsum". My spelling might be a little off. I was told my doc that people with immune disorders like us sometimes get these types of pains. It can be treated and should go away.

Thanks Lisa,

My doctor confirmed that it was indeed cellulitis because it was such a large area involved. It was about 6 inches long running down the front bottom half of my shin and the skin was tight and shiny and very red and hot to the touch. There were no other patches nor did it have the nodular appearance of EN.

I have no doubt that it is connected to my UC/Crohns because I have so much else going on at the moment. (see my "What's going on?" post in the General discussion forum)

Thanks again for your advice and support. Take care Smiler
