Flyte, your sleeping on the toilet comment made me laugh and reminded me of soemthing I thought about at 3:00 am this morning when I was up for my nightly poop. I was sitting in the dark on the toilet thinking how great it would be if there were a pull-out table hooked to the back of the BR door (the door is right next to the toilet when the door is closed). You know, so I could sit down, close the door, pull out the table (installed at just the right level), and put my head down to sleep while I'm there. Of course, I might not ever get up!

Hi Lisa, There are lots of meds that can help him. As to try a low dose of nortriptyline and 12-hour levbid. I had the same exact problems and those meds really helped me. The combination of the 2 reduced my BM's and solified them a little. Within a week I was sleeping all night and stopped having any pain at all. Don't give up, just keep working with your Doctor until you find something that helps. If you are in the Cincinnati area, Dr. Nathan Schmulewitz is fabulous. He is incredibly smart and kind and recently was picked as one of the top GI physicians.

Lisa,
I had similar issues (still do at times), it gradually gets better. I found that Tramadol and Lortab helped a lot, was on one or the other for the better part of a year and had no trouble getting off it. It seemed to calm things down and slow the fruequency and help me relax at night. I'm on a wheat/dairy/raw food free diet now that seems to be helping some too. I'm eating a lot of rice, chicken, seafood, turkey, gluten free waffles ECT...
Take care, it will get better.
