Hi All,

I had my surgery done in one step on April eigth and have been doing very well, but over the last few days I have developed really bad itching (and burning today) just to the right of the incision. It is numb to the touch and has been since surgery but the itching/burning feels like it is just under the skin, and for some reason if i push with my bms it burns as well. I can't scratch because of the numbness so nothing helps, it doesn't feel like it is deep inside but today was quite painful, is this just a damaged nerve issue or could it be something else. It is driving me crazy. Thanks Renee (there was bruising in the same place right after the surgery)

Hi Renee,

It sounds like you have a wound infection to me. I have had these several times (had lots of surgery) and had to have the wound re-opened to allow the infection to drain.

Please call your doctor and explain what's going on as soon as possible.

Good luck and keep us posted.

If there is no redness, swelling, or heat associated with your symptoms, it is less likely to be an infection (but it still can be early signs). It can also be your nerve endings regenerating into the previously numbed area.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.
