Me again! Mandy was admitted to hospital last night with a bowel infection. She's been complaining of sickness for weeks, saw a hospital doctor on Friday but he could find nothing wrong.

I had to get emergency doc out at the weekend, who admitted her.

She's on morphine, anti-sickness drugs, something to rehydrate her and antibiotics.

What's worrying her is that her take-down is on 24th of this month and they may postpone it?

Has this happened to anybody else?

I am a lil confused,,why morphine?..is she in pain?
I didnt have that happen to me but I was nouseous most of the time after j pouch surgery prior to takedown. I think it was dehydration in my case. My takedown was postponed for a month and althought i was disapointed at the time it was a good idea to wait longer so that I could be stronger to cope with another operation and what was to follow. The first 2 weeks are hard.
I hope that being on a drip and rehydrated properly toghether with antibiotics will do the trick in time for takedown. If not then wait she must cose its unwise to go ahead with surgery with unresolved problem.

Well, Mandy's out of hospital now, having had every scan known to man! They could find nothing wrong but suspect an inflammation, which seems to have settled now.

She's back in hospital next Thursday, for her take-down. She can't wait. Her stoma has given her so much grief.

Thanks for all your help. x

Hi Puddy,

I'm glad that your niece is feeling better. The inflamation could have been from adhesions and as Ewa mentioned, dehydration can cause nausea.

I expect she is counting the minutes until her takedown, especially if she still hasn't managed to get her peristomal skin issues under control. Pass on my good luck wishes for a speedy and trouble free recovery from her takedown next week.

Thanks again for the update.

Take care. Smiler
