Hello all, this is my first post so bear with me. I had takedown surgery in August of 2011. I had anal dilation with an instrument in June 2011 because of an anal stricture where he connected my j-pouch to my rectum. This procedure went well with some pain and discomfort but all in all ok. He did another dilation when he did the takedown surgery. I have just had another dilation because of the same stricture and it seems to have worked but I am in quite a bit of pain. My real concern is that the dilation was on Friday October 14 and wince then I have had a fever of 103 degrees which I can control with meds. I went to the ER the morning after the dilation because of the fever and the ER doc said that all blood work and urine tests and x-rays came back normal. Has anyone else had this or have any ideas what it could be? Thanks Paul

I have had several in-office dilations done, but I never had much discomfort or pain after it was done or ever ran a fever. Maybe coincidentally you caught a bug of some sort giving you the fever? Do you have any other symptoms? Marianne DX UC 2005 when I was 37 Tried every drug and diet....all failed Step 1- 6/25/10 (colectomy & J-pouch creation) Step 2- 10/8/10 (take down) Very pleased with my results.

Actually, thinking back now, I did have pain after the first dilation because it was really closed up tight. The ones that followed were not as bad. i got sick once after a dialation procedure.had high blood pressure with a fever.had to stay in the hospital until my temperature lowered to normal.it could be a reaction to the anesthesia or just a reaction to the procedure.its best to stay in the hospital until vital signs get back to normal and you feel ok.eventually things should get back to normal.

No other symptoms. It hurts to pass stool at times and the ER said to keep medicating to keep the fever down. I will be calling my surgeon on Monday to see what he says. Thanks for the quick responses.

After a dilation, when it is uncomfortable to have a B.M., have you tried Metamucil? It always seems to make it easier for my stool to pass when my anal area is irritated. C.E.M.

I know it's a late response but be careful it could be an abcess. They perforated me 5 years ago and it was after a dilation. The needed to do a MRI to see it. Go see another doctor if you're not satisfied. They had to drain mine and I stayed 28 days in hospital.
