I am not doing to much better after almost a week and a half. Doctors gave me anti-biotics for inflamation in stomach and pouch but I am having troubles in my abdomen. When food passes it is crampy and I feel pressure. Can someone help me with what a stricture is like? Or what exactly are adhesions? It's amazing how hard times make you study and want to know everything. I have pressure on my right side near the old stoma spot. Thanks for any help offered.------I appreciate the web site so much.

Also my stomach isn't emptying right, I can tell that for sure. I was given reglan yet it made me very lethargic to the point of not being able to move much. Is there other medications that any of you have taken? Leftie

Reglan is pretty much it for gastroparesis (stomach dysmotility). There was one other drug, Propulsid, but it was taken off the market due to associated cardiac arrhythmias. It can now only be used in very specific situations where there is no other option.

What you are describing sounds like the most common site for problematic adhesions following this surgery- the site of the ileostomy. Imaging diagnostics probably will not show anything unless the obstruction is severe or it is causing a very narrowed section. The only way to treat it is through surgical release. More surgery can lead to more adhesions, sometimes even if adhesion barriers are used. So surgical release is a last resort option.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Lefty,
I hope its just a temporary. I have a severe narrowing in this area. There using a balloon to open it up. It's working. Sticureplasty is also a possibility as well. Don't go down my road, there is no joy there! I hope the meds work, soon! Arthur
