I've always had mucous discharge from my back passage since step one of surgery but have had stool passing through my rectum fairly frequently. The past 2 days it has been practically constant and I have no control. I am wearing thick pads all the time but the stool and discharge smells horrid and of course is making me red raw. This I can deal with but I cannot deal with being incontinent when, as far as I'm aware, this amount of stool should not be passing through when I'm still using my temp ileostomy. My surgeon is aware and says its not pouchitis. I was supposed to have my takedown surgery a couple of weeks ago but was unable to as he founda stricture and is worried about fluid build up. Could this all be related? And has anyone experienced incontinence whilst still having a temp ileostomy?

I had incontinence with my ostomy and leaked mostly fluid all the time while sleeping. I did sometimes leak stool, but not as much as I leaked fluid. I did have diversionary pouchitis and was started on an antibiotic before takedown and I am sorry to say, six months later I am still on it for pouchitis. I am not sure I would agree with your surgeon and personally do not think the stricture has anything to do with this as I have one now with my pouch and I am never incontinent, but then again, I am not a surgeon or pro on this topic..just my experience.
Why are you having fluid build up an why is the surgeon concerned about this? Is the fluid build up occurring because not much can pass much through due to the stricture and is the stricture at the anastomosis site? Has he attempted to dilate your stricture or possibly excise the scar tissue or is he waiting to do this until you heal more? He should be able to dilate you at takedown time so I am not sure why he is waiting?

The only conversation I had with him was about 2 minutes long and I was stil lying horizontal in recovery! All he said was he couldn't do anything about the stricture until I had an mri and he knew exactly what was going on, and that he was concerned about a fluid build up (I don't know whether he thinks this is related to the stricture or not). I don't even have a date for the mri yet.
The amount of stool I'm losing through my back passage is horrible, I've had 2 accidents whilst out so far and am changing pads constantly. I am also having awful cramps. If it goes on too much longer I think I will end up going into A&E. Urgh!
