Hi Everyone,
I thought I would never ever say these words again but I am beginning to think my problem is pouchitus but also constipation. I feel a lot of gas pressure but when I go it barely moves and the pressure is awful. Anybody got any ideas to relieve the constipation? I have been in touch with my GI and I am on Cipro for pouchitus but I do think the constipation is another problem. I just dont want to over do it and have the running problem. Have to work every day so don't need to much running.
Thanks
Marie

Hi,
I'm replying just because noone else has yet; I wish I had more concrete advice. I haven't really had constipation problems, but I've seen people recommend grape juice or lots of liquids to get things moving again. I get gas very easily, and sometimes feel blocked but I still have loose BMs at the same time. Taking psyllium seeds has helped me the most. I'd say if you feel blocked, get things moving along even if it does mean running to the loo for a bit. Good luck!

You may need a different antibiotic or a lower dose of Cipro as it seems to be thickening your stool too much. Most people don't realize that most of the stool is bacteria and when you kill them all off, it can really reduce the bulk. I would also suggest adding fiber. Are you sure you do not have an anal stricture?

Hi you guys,
Thanks so much for your responce but it actually turned out to be something differant. For the last 4 days I have been in horrible pain. Nothing would flow through without a huge amount of straining. I got back in touch with my GI and he increased my Cipro to 1000 mg. I am glad to say today I am starting to feel normal again. He says its pouchitus but I have an appointment with him May 22 so we can discuss it further. I guess I have to have Cipro forever. Everytime I go off it comes back. Sometimes I almost think I want the bag back then I remember having to peel the bag off in pain and decide to fight it a little longer. Thanks so much for your help.

Ohh wow, that's some serious pouchitis when you are so inflamed that you cannot empty.

Usually, its the opposite and you have serious diarrhea.
