Has anyone here had any experiences with having high calcium levels in their blood? My GI is concerned and I will go next week to have more drawn to see if it goes down. I am not anemic anymore, which is good because step one of my surgery is schedule for April 3rd...hopefully they will not have to postpone anything due to the calcium! I was just wondering if elevated calcium counts have anything to do with UC, steroids, or Remicade or if any of you had any thoughts on this ??

They may need to check your parathyroid glands. My Aunt had problems with calcium in her blood and that was the cause. She had to have them removed. She is doing well. I am not sure if UC has anything to do with it, but that was her problem. Good luck to you!!!!

I wonder if would be worth having your magnesium levels tested. You may want to ask your GI to test these too. Magnesium is required to regulate and utilize calcium. It is my understanding that chronic diarrhea (as with UC) will potentially lead a person's body to possess low levels of magnesium. It can't hurt to ask and be tested.

Whenever you have high levels of calcium, suspect parathyroid gland problems. It is the parathyroid gland that is responsible for regulating the calcium and phosphate levels in the blood by controlling release and reuptake in the kidneys and bones.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.
