My son had step one of J-pouch surgery on April 18th. All went well until we got home (about 6 days later). He has the most intense painful sores in his mouth. He has developed pimples that break and bleed in down below. He has a sty and he's lost 50 lbs in the last 3 months. He can't eat (he tries). He drinks lots of water b/c he doesn't want to get dehydrated.

He's on anti fungal, anti viral, antibiotics, and painkillers. Does anybody know what's going on and will he get better? I'm beginning to wonder if we made the right decision. Does it have anything to do with the fact that he was on Remicade and 6MP before surgery.

I'm REALLY SCARED and WORRIED!!!!

Have you contacted your son's doctors? He may need to be fed with a central line if he cannot eat.

I do not have the knowledge to advise you, but I wish you both well.

meds will make him not wanna eat I go through alot if he can cut back on some of them and see if that helps. Also he losing weight from the surgery from not eating and surgery I do every time I have one..I had step 1 and 2 twice ...

Antibotics can cause the sores I used to get some and soon as I stopped them they stopped so the docs said it was from that. Meds can do alot to ya they help but the side effects can effect some people more than most. Have him drink boast , ensure, stuff like that if he is not eating so he gets some weight and nutrients he needs I have to and he does help..

a couple things can cause the sores and one of them could be low B 12, especially if he has had any malnurishment issues. One thing i would suggest he eat are bananas. Bananas are great for potasium. I used to get a sore mouth and I would love to cream the banana in my mouth and just rest on sore spot in my mouth. The other thing that's great about bananas is that they slow things down and offer bulk as well. I hop you are able to find some relief for him....
I just thought up of a nother idea as fas as the mouth goes...Try to get those homeopathic teething pills that help babies with new teeth.
I think that once the mouth issues are resolved the more willing he will be to eat....
OOPS!!! I just woke up! Sorry, I fell asleep while typing! hope this little bit helps!
