I was prescribed the above by my doctor last week and I understand it is the same as metamucil.

After 3 days of taking it I am confined to my bed and constantly needing to go to the loo, prob up to 15 times a day from my usual 6-8. Is this just the honeymoon period and I should wait a few more days and suffer or should I take it this stuff does not work for me.

Thanks

I can't remember when you had your takedown. I know that early on, while my body was still healing and adjusting to everything, fiber did not help me. It made things worse. It was something I came back to later. So... that's a possible cause.

I tried to google fibergel and could not find anything listing the ingredients, but you should probably take a look. Since it's a fiber drink, you might look at the sugar content. Also, people here have said the powders don't work as good as the psyllium wafers. If you can't buy metamucil wafers, you can look up the recipe and make some yourself. Might be worth a try:

Thanks for your reply.

Surgery completed 4 months ago now. Fibergel - was recommended by shell who is a member here and a fellow brit. We cant get the wafers which is so unfair. The ingrediants are powdered husks.

I have just returned from work to find I have 2 jars of pure husks at the post office waiting for collection. I will try and make some cookies tomorrow as I am off work. Incidentilly I cant thank my employers enough, I am a web designer and they supported me all through my 10 weeks in hospital this year and have further supported me by allowing me to work 3 days a week for the last 2 months so I can get back into things. As a get well gift they bought me a 23" flat screen TFT monitor, video games and a massive bunch of flowers. Sorry to digress.

Can anyone confirm this as the correct wafers? Maybe I could make regular purchases from ebay?

The fiber supplements didn't work for me at first either. I still don't take them, don't like the way they make me feel.

the following is a link to a post with a recipe for DIY wafers. Perhaps you could try these?

Hi Manchester,

The secret for j-pouchers is to not mix the fibergel with as much water as it says on the packet. That way it absorbes excess liquid in your gut and thickens your output instead of giving you the trots.

I hope this works but Soph's cookie recepe sounds like they could help.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Cool Shell Cool

Hi Manchester,
Oh god you poor thing! That's definitely NOT what should happen when you take metamucil or normal psyllium. Did you take the Fibergel with water? Like Shell said, if you did then that will probably have caused the trots. Sounded like you were going to give my recipe a go. I hope it helps you like it does me. Roll the dough really thin and they'll be nice and crispy. I reackon one of the reasons why they work is that they're mainly made of oats and psyllium, both of which help regulate stool. The metamucil wafers you found on the net are the right ones. I've never ordered off ebay - is it safe? I always worry about getting stacks of junk mail offering to extend my non-existant penis if I order things online! LOL
But I'd happily pay a fiver to get Metamucil. Just remember not to glugg down lots of water with these things or you will be chained to the loo. Good luck!!
ps: So glad your employers have been so caring. Mine are excellent in that respect, too. It means so much.
