Has anyone heard of Movi-Prep?

This is what I was told to use the day before surgery..along with some antibotics....I don't recall ever using a prep for any of my surgeries before..except for nothing to eat after midnight.....

I thought I read somewhere that jpouchers didn't need to/and shouldn't use a prep?

I don't like to question my dr's instructions but this seems a little too much..All I need to do is drink some white grape juice and I'm empty...Actually I'm pretty empty every morning as it is now without trying to be! Smiler

If anyone has any information please let me know..
Thanks
Char.....

Hi.. I had to take a prep before my surgery. I had to take the antibiotics but they always make me nauseous. My surgeon told me, if I do anything, was that it was more important to clean out than antibiotics.

I have read too on the board that some don't have to take a prep.. maybe it is a surgeon's preference?

Is this a general surgeon? Does he know you have a J Pouch?

If the answers to the above are Yes and No (*respectively*). Call his office and tell him, I think you'll get a different answer. If he doesn't know and still asks you to take the "Movi Prep" (which I've never heard of), I would not do it..........I'd do that liquid diet thing and take a touch of Mag Citrate.

As for using a prep before any surgery, I've only had surgery for my colectomy and takedown.......however, any "typical" prep would be overkill with a Pouch. A touch of Mag Citrate and a liquid diet late the afternoon before would probably be sufficent.

Thanks for the replies...

Chuckus..no he is not a general surgeon..In fact he is the top surgeon of a group of six colorectal surgeons!
A first I wondered if it was a mistake of the nurse, but the MoviPrep was a prescription...so he had to sign it.!
I just don't know what to do..afraid not to use it and afraid to use it......
BTW I've never heard of MoviPrep before either.....
Anyone else have any insight?
Thanks..

I'd call his office, for some reason this strikes as an oversight. Smiler

MoviPrep is usually used as prep for colonoscopies and for those with colons (laxative). I think it would be overkill with a j-pouch. I'd question it.

Char, I had to do a full prep before my corrective surgery and takedown. I used pills the first time and miralax and gatorade for takedown.
