hi y'all...
thought I would check in here before beginning the lengthy process to see my specialist..
For the past few days I have had quite strong abdominal pain, a "just punched in the stomach" feeling that jags when I move certain ways. I also have back pain, particularly when I lie down, and I am not sure if this is related to the stomach or to inflammatory arthritis, which I have also got in my hips and knees at the mo.
It is making me a little short of breath, and Im finding it hard to sleep. The only thing that has happened recently is starting a course of flagyl and cipro.
Any ideas? All suggestions much appreciated Smiler
Amy

Gee, I hope the process isn't too lengthy, because this sounds pretty terrible. I would want to see a doctor within a few days of onset of the type of pain you describe. The back pain could be from your arthritis, or it could be related to the abdominal pain. If it is the latter, it means there is more widespread inflammation/irritation going on. Do you have a fever? It certainly does not sound like the Cipro/Flagyl is doing what it is supposed to be doing. It could also be a reaction to the antibiotics.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Thanks for your reply Jan.
I have had a fever, which is gone now - I thought I was getting the flu, but it only lasted about a day.
The Cipro/Flagyl was for mild pouchitis and fistulas and both of these seemed to have calmed down alot, now I just have these other symptoms! You can't win! Smiler
Taking celebrex has seemed to help the back pain, although its still there a little.
The stomach pain is something I haven't really experienced before...a bit like a cross between the pain you get when you have a pill stuck in your throat, and then pain I got when I had a PE.
I thought it might be a stomach ulcer, but my bf (who is a doctor) said no. We are on holiday at the moment, and I can try and get to my specialist asap when I get back (in a week). Hopefully it is not more urgent than that? Confused

I should add that I have had both cipro and flagyl before with no adverse reactions.

Hopefully it is just adhesions causing some kinks or pulling. Sounds like you are a fairly complicated case and it could be any number of things. With a doctor in tow on your holiday, I guess you can relax and he will know what to do if the symptoms get really bad!
