But can someone please tell why some jpouchers have the greatest success with their jpouches,I am truly truly happy for them, while other jpouchers such as myself have a nightmarish outcome with continued endless suffering.I guess it`s a "crap shoot" I know but it still boggles my mind. Roll Eyes

It is a mystery that's for sure. So sorry you are having problems. Hope you can get some relief soon.

Marianne

DX UC 2005 when I was 37
Tried every drug and diet....all failed
Step 1- 6/25/10 (colectomy & J-pouch creation)
Step 2- 10/8/10 (take down)
Very pleased with my results.

well i can tell you is that my mom who had stage 3 colon cancer, chemotheraphy,an ileostomy and had it reversed hasnt had any j-pouch problems.i on the otherhand who had preventive surgery had j-pouch failure instantly, and have been sytruggling with a host of complications, pain and difficulty.so the surgery results are unique to the individual.

Wish I knew what the secret formula for success was, I would have saved my j pouch if it was possible! Oh well God has a plan, I just have to keep reminding myself that, for it is hard to remember in times of suffering, like many of us go through. Hang in there, I hope things improve for you.

Hey Copperhead!

Rule no 1: There are NO stupid questions. Rule no 2: don't talk about fight cl.. oh wait, sorry. :-D

It seems completely down to luck, I'm afraid. I'm sure a medic would rightly say there are a whole load of varying factors, including who your surgeon is, but that's dangerous because we start comparing surgeons!

Having a great surgeon improves your chances of a good outcome, but there never are any guarantees. Even with the best surgeon, bad outcomes happen. The reason? Stuff happens. Stuff that is beyond anyone's control. You don't even know that you'd be better off if you kept your colon or even if you opted for an ileostomy. There are problems and pitfalls to every option.

The main thing is that we are not machines that come from the same die. We are all very similar, but also unique. Sometimes that uniqueness is a wonderful thing, other times it is a trigger for a cascade of bad events. A generation ago I guess many of us would be dead instead of complaining....

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.
