I am almost 1 month post surgery and today and yesterday i have been getting a sharp pain near the right side of my stoma. The pain comes and goes for a couple of minutes and then will not hurt for a couple of hours only to return... Any advice or suggestions??? DB

Sort of sounds like a partial blockage. The part that makes me think that is the sharp pains that come and go (most describe it as "waves"), but the odd part is that you get some respite for a few hours.

However, does it start back up when you eat? If so, then that's probably the culprit. I might try a liquid diet for a day to see if that helps; you can also drink grape juice to move things through a bit more quickly.

Failing that, I have no other advice, but maybe someone else does.

Good luck!

It may also be scar tissue breaking up. Soon after take down it started but my surgeon said it was the scarring and it would get better.
I am over a year from take down now and still occasionally get a twinge in that area after some hard exercise.

You might want to remove the appliance and take a look. I recently developed a small pressure sore next to my stoma and was in a lot of pain. I may have had things on a bit too tight, including the belt. I had to use some stomahesive powder and after a couple of appliances changes with powder, the skin filled back in and the problem corrected itself.

Sometimes just a little something like what I described above can cause a lot of pain.
