Hi Everyone,
Last Monday I went for a CT Scan. I have been having problems with pouchitus for a couple years now. I am on Cipro daily. The doctors nurse called me friday and said it showed my sigmoid was dialated. What does this mean? I ask her but she said they would be back in touch when my stool test and CBC came back. I have been going through a lot of pain and I am just anxious to know what might be happening. Thanks for you help.

Is this your surgeon's office? I may be an idiot but I thought the sigmoid was beginning part of the colon which is obviously not there anymore. When I had my colon and had scopes while awake it was a flexible sigmoidoscopy, which is the first 8-10 inches or so. Is it possible this radiologist, or whoever read your scan, doesn't know he's looking at a j-pouch patient and though the wider j-pouch was a dilated sigmoid?

Please just tell me if I'm way off base here.

Erin

Hi Marie,

I suspect that Erin is correct and the radiologist read the result wrong and thought he was looking at your sigmoid colon rather than your j-pouch.

I had a similar experience not long after I had my j-pouch surgery. I was in the middle of a full blown obstruction and the radiologist though she was looking at an overian cyst and the A&E doctor who read the results actually wanted to get the gynie doctor down to "drain" it there and then with a needle! Eeker I explained to them that it was a j-pouch that they were looking at and that under no circumstances was I going to allow anyone other than my surgeon to insert a needle or anything else for that matter! This was 12 years ago and there weren't many doctors on the island who even knew what a j-pouch was.

Anyway, try not to panic until you get the rest of your results and then you can speak to your doctor.

Keep us posted. Smiler

Hey,
Thanks everybody. Wow I can't believe this. I was the first one to fall for it but my husband said you don't have that do you? My whole surgery was very confusing. A good doctor but one of few words then a few months after my surgery he left this state. Now I have a GI doctor and they are so busy these days they don't half pay attention. The other day when I called the nurse she had ask if I had mt CT scan done yet 3 times then called back on my home phone while I was at work talking to her and gave me the results. Also the CT scan was done in their office! Okay Thanks again you guys. If it wasn't for this site no telling what they might take out. Ha
