I was wondering if there are certain foods/ drinks that seem to cause itching after going to the bathroom. I have been experiencing it but can not pinpoint which foods it is caused from.

Itching is very common so soon after your takedown. I itched so bad I thought I would lose my mind! I really don't think it is the food, I think it is just the way it is! Try calmoseptine or something else. I use Ilex and vaseline coating. At times, I thought if only I could scratch or rub or something and I came close and caused irritation and bleeding. So leave it alone if you can and put some soothing ointment there.

Chocolate will do it. Some citrus and spicy foods, as well as coffee (the oils in coffee) can cause rectal itching.

Also, you may have developed a yeast infection from taking antibiotics. Be sure you keep the area dry to prevent fungal infections from forming.

I went to a dermatologist when I began to deal with fungal stuff, and itching/burning. Your primary physician would be a good place to start.

I had the same problem after my take-down in November. I dealt with the itching for about a month and couldn't take it any longer. I saw my GP who diagnosed a good 'ol yeast infection! I had immediate relief after taking the antibiotic!

If you've ruled out a yeast infection, I think your best bet is to put hydrocortisone on. It's really the only thing that will cut it for me. I've noticed one culprit is not being "clean" enough. Sometimes, toilet paper just doesn't do it. So if you're still having problems, get some cottonelle wipes and make sure the area is clean and dry.

Hi

I am in the midst of the itching problem myself. I am a guy so I don't think the yeast infection applies to me, to thanks for the other suggestions. I do find that a good old soaking in the tubs helps a little. It seems to ward off the itching for awhile.

Hope that helps.

C-Bread, the yeast thing can very much apply to you. It will take a hold in warm damp areas so don't think that just because you are a guy that you can't get it. I would ask your doctor to test you for it.

Good luck.

I don't itch the entire day. It is usually just after I use the bathroom--- I'd say for up to 20 minutes after that. It is not every time- so that I why I am thinking that it is certain foods. Any help?

I second the not being clean enough theory. That's the one thing that makes me itch like hades. It always means that even though I've wiped for an eternity, some tiny little bit is not wiped clean. Use wet wipes always, dab dry with paper, then aply a layer of numbing cream. That should do the trick.

Should certain kind of wipes be avoided? I started itching once I started using wipes by pure and gentle that my wife bought for me. Are there certain ingrediants that should be avoided. I went back to wetting my toliet paper and the itching has decreased but has not gone away completly. Also I only tend to itch after using. It tends to last from twenty to fifty minutes after.

I would associate these foods with increased itching in my cases. Eggs, Milk, Wheat, and Soy.

Try and find a cream called ARNICA- it is from a plant and comes from mexico and the Aztecs. It is great, natural and controls minor pain and itching, & skin irratation.

Get in the habbit of washing your butt in the bathroom- some pple use squirt bottles- but i just hang my butt over the edge of the sink or shower and wash wash. BTW- this is how everyone does it in India and the Middle east! Also shave any hair so it can clean easier.

For me water and Ilex have been the two things that have kept me itch free.

Use a perineal squirt bottle ($2 at local hospital supply store) to irrigate the area after you empty your pouch. Also, install a handheld showerhead. I can't live without mine - I can tell a huge difference when I travel and have to use a regular showerhead.

I found Ilex (just a teeny amount followed by a teeny amount of vaseline) will protect your skin from your acidic output. I no longer use this much any more, but I used it regularly during my first year after surgery. Nupercainal is a topical, over-the-counter ointment that helps to relieve itching also.

Hope you find relief soon.

You would think the medical people would come up with a solution to this problem...or at least let us know what causes it Roll Eyes
I know there is not much money in butt burn releif for the pharmy companies Razzer
Drives me crazy how I do good 1 time and itch and burn the next, how I leak a little 1 time and none the next few hours. I don't mind pooping so many times a day but don't want to play "butt burn roulette" as well.
Hope everybody has a butt burn free day Big Grin

I have been searching for 5 years for answers, solutions. . . even clues as to what causes and what can alleviate this problem. And I agree, if we know that our output is caustic, due to digestive enzymes and acid, it would seem there could be an antidote. I have tried soda baths and gentle enemas made with diluted liquid antacid, with limited success.

The problem is the same as with stoma erosion . . . medications do not stick to broken, sore, weeping skin.
