Hey folks! Had my take down Nov.5th and everything has been good & pretty normal in comparrison to all others having thiers around that time. Last night while straining to keep a movement going I felt some pain & noticed on the left of my incision above my belly button my stomach was sticking out on one side. I felt down the wall of my abdoman & it feels like the muscle stops and thers a hole to the side about the size of a golf ball or bigger & feels like there is fluid in there. I'm really upset because I plan to be released for work on friday to work on monday! I really want to get back to the routines of life! Now I wonder if they'll have to open me up to repair something! I am praying up a storm! Jan Dollars or anyone hear of such a problem? I am waiting for a phone call from doctor whom I left message. Thanks for your help & especially prayers!

It is good that you are going to have your doctor take a look and feel around down there too.
There is a possibility that you could have a small hernia. They are pretty easy to fix. In the meantime, I will pray that all is okay! |

I Hope they figure out what is wrong... Will keep you in my prayers that all is o.k. to go back to work on Monday. David |

Hi Danny,
I agree with Bodoni, it does sound like you have a hernia. Try coughing with your hand over the area. If you feel a bulge when you cough then it's pretty certain that's what it is. The good news is that not all hernias need urgent attention and in fact most doctors will leave well alone unless they are causing pain or if the bulge doesn't reduce easily when lying flat. Let your doctor know your concerns and try not to panic. It's rarely life-threatening. Oh and try not to strain so hard in future. Good luck for work on Monday and let us know what the doctor says. Take care One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

Thanks Shell,
I knew or hoped you'd respond. Just coughed & it does go in and out & when I lay down it does not portrude out. Doctor called and said since i felt fine & no fever or chills that I'm safe to see him on friday! Made me feel much better! Then your words confirmed I'll be fine and maybe I won't even have to have surgery on it! That would really make me smile, because I'm not in to more hospital time or time off work! I'm one of these strange folks who really does not mind work! I clearly can't see retiring at 53 years old! I'll keep you all posted! I was pretty shook up thinking another surgery was probable! Perhaps not!! Thanks Danny |

Yep, sounds like an incisional hernia to me too. I waited a full year after my surgery to have mine repaired and it was the size of a grapefruit! These types of hernias are rarely urgently repaired and as long as it goes in as easily as it comes out, there is no danger. Plus, if you do need surgery, it probably can be performed as outpatient surgery with a very quick recovery period. I was up to my normal routine in 24 hours after my repair.
Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |
