I've been sick with a terrible flu for the last week. Fever up to 105 off and on and just miserable. Finally coming out of it today and can get up and around. I have a loop ileo (second one after pouch problems) and for the last week my pouch has been hurting bad. I can only imagine it's pouchitis, even though it's not connected. I have pain and an near-constant feeling of wanting to pass mucous.

Can the flu have brought on pouchitis? I have some Flagy left-over, can I just start taking it? It won't do any harm if I'm still recovering from the flu, will it? It's kind of in my chest now with a nasty cough and flem but I that's about it.

Thank you!!
Erin

It should be fine to take the Flagyl. Just make sure you are staying hydrated with this bout with the flu. That fever sounds scary!

Thanks Jan! I started the Flagyl this morning and hopefully it will kick in soon.

Yes, the fever was pretty scary. My 4-yr-old son had it with me and his was almost up to 106!!!! VERY scary!! We just drank fluids constantly and lots of Tylenol and Motrin (for him only) to take it down some. The flu this year hits hard and fast. It's weird too because it also has a lot of cold symptoms with it. Congestion, cough and now settling in my chest. I'm hoping to prevent pnemonia from setting in. Any suggestions? It's pretty deep in there now.

Thanks again!
Erin

I just heard in the news yesterday that this year's flu vaccine only covers about 40% of the flu viruses out there (as compared to the typical 60%). So, a good reason to avoid folks with the flu, even if you had the vaccine.

help! MY two DD's just finished the flu, i got it, my pouch got all spasm'y and i ended up in emergency after 4 days of not being able to keep even pedialite down. Now, my 5year old just got sent home from school throwing up - and her dad had a different symptom flu a few days ago. What can i do to bolster my immune system? And how does anybody work with this? I've missed over a week now - i'm gonna b an unemployed single mom with a pouch!
