Hello,
I'm new here. I had take down 6 months ago. It has not been so good since then. Battleing pouchitis, antibiotics, blah blah blah. I still have a constant urge to go so much so that I get up and go at night, or at least sit there because it feels like I need to, probably 10-15 times a night. I just switched off the wafers to benefiber, but at 6 months out could this still be considered "normal". I also am constantly fighting to slow things down so I don't get dehydrated. Anybody out there want to comment? Also so antibiotics kill all probiotics and prebiotics? |

If you have pouchitis, sometimes it is difficult, if not impossible to reduce your frequency until the pouchitis is under control. What specifically are you taking to slow your output? Imodium, lomotil, Pepto Bismol? Is it possible that you have IPS (irritable pouch syndrome) on top of pouchitis? Antispasmotics and antidepressants are the treatment for that.
I had pretty high frequency and urgency for about 4 years until my cuffitis was treated. The appropriate treatment for that is mesalamine or hydrocortisone suppositories. Antibiotics will reduce your probiotics, but not prebiotics (since prebiotics are not bacteria, just food). So, if you do take antibiotics and probiotics, space them out as much as you can. Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |
