I am about 10 months out from final reconnect and everything. Small amounts of gas throughout the day and night give me a fit. Never know if it will cause a mess or not? Any body have any suggestions?

Gas is one of those things that will give you fits no matter what point you are in along the way Smiler Hopefully it doesn't give others fits too!

Gas is perfectly normal with an ostomy (assuming you have one?). Is it causing you problems due to noise, discomfort, or what? Is it coming out the stoma, your bottom, or both? If just your ostomy, you shouldn't have to worry about it causing a mess. I never had a problem blowing my bag off. If it's coming out your bottom, then you probably do have some concern that mucous may come with it.

Gas-X, probiotics, and eating habits can help. The Gas-X is self-explanatory. Probiotics (yogurt, supplements, VSL#3, etc.) can help reduce bacteria that produce gas - but they can make you gasier for the first week or so before things settle down. Also, try eating first and then drinking later. It really helps.

My bad, I didn't clarify. I am 10 months beyond the ostomy. I only have the j pouch. Thanks for the advice. The concern is that as gas builds up it is very uncomfortable in the bottom. Scared to let it go because of the concern that it may contain fluid. I have been taking acidophyllus? for about 6 months. Maybe the Gas-X will help.

Yeah - time post TD, probiotics, and the drinking after eating thing really helped me the most. Gas-X was okay along the way but the other things helped more.

walking solved my gas problems.

I was in my office (cubicle) and I was passing gas like there was no tomorrow. I tried holding it but it backfires inside me and makes a loud gurgling sound so I snuk out the building and started walking. The 1st 5 mins I was still passing but not as bad. Then the next thing I know it's gone but I kept walking. I get gassy every after meal but not always, but if I am that's when I walk.

Mike the acidophyllus you are taking could be the culprit. I have tried probiotics before and failed because the gas was too much for me. Try cutting out the acidophyllus for a week or two and see if it improves a bit.Good Luck Scott Mc

I am five years post takedown and have found gas to be my friend since it sits on top of stool and pushes it out until I feel wonderfully empty. Overtime I have been able to let the gas out without passing stool. I don't know how or why that happened. It just did. My gas is not painful. Holding it in is! So....thar she blows! I am fortunate, no odor to my gas! Believe it or not, if I have a less gassy day, I eat foods on purpose which will create gas just to make sure the stool is pushed out of my pouch unitl I feel empty.

Highroller, you can pass gas while you are strolling along? What good fortune for you. I do not dare attempt anything so risky while out in public. I can only pass a small amount of gas while sitting and only if I assert that my body will not fool me into passing unwanted byproducts in accompaniment. Did this all come naturally to you?

Some people skydive. Some people bungee jump. I wear white trousers.

hi everyone!
I find the only way I can pass gas is by laying down on my belly. Does anyone have to do this to pass gas too? Sitting on the toilet is impossible- I push and push and nothing happens!, while I feel it gurgling up and down like crazy!
