Uh Oh, pain & blood!

I'm 6 weeks out from surgery. I was doing great until yesterday. Since then, everytime I go to the bathroom I have to strain to go, I have severe pain when passing stool, and I notice blood mixed with the stool. My stool is thick but it doesn't seem too thick to pass!? If my cuff was bleeding I wouldn't expect it to cause so much pain?? I had my whole rectum bleeding from UC but no pain... I'm not saying I don't have cuffitis I just don't know whats going on. Any thoughts?

First surgery of 3, 6-8-11. They took out my colon and tested it! No CD! YAY!!!
2nd surgery did steps 2 & 3 together 9-7-11.

At 6 weeks out, i experienced the same thing. my stool was to thick and my nurses suggested drinking more water ( a lot more) and being careful with my diet.

I stopped taking immodium or anything else that would thicken me up as well. The bleeding and discomfort stopped in 2 days.

Hope this helps.

Call your doc! Could be something minor, but should be looked into.

Yes, call your doc. My rule of thumb is at any time if I see blood, I'm calling my dr. Hope it's just something easy to take care of. Let us know how you make out.

Stay hydrated. I had the same thing about 6 weeks out and my Doctor said to drink more water.

I did and the blood and straining disappeared. Much like yours did.

Best to you

Yes the immodium and psyllium are over rated. I only take a few psyllium caps a day. Plus looser BM's empty easier, no straining. I saw some blood back then too but was told it was from things healing up inside.
