Hi everyone, I'm having a little predicament. I had my takedown a couple of weeks ago and still have the staples. The staples popped open two days after my release from the hospital, meaning that some are on the bottom of the incision and some on top, and none are holding the incision together. The incision seems to be doing ok besides alittle bit of drainage and the staple issue. My problem is however, that I had an appointment scheduled for May 1st to get them removed by my surgeon but can no longer make it because I am flying to B.C. early that day and will be staying for 2 weeks. I had to reschedule the staple removel appointment for May. 28th. Will waiting so long to get them removed cause problems? I would get my gp to do it but they are special staples that almost make up a box shape and need a special tool to take them out. What do you think?
Hi Cindy I,m glad to hear your doing well,as for the staples,I was operated on at mount sini in Toronto, when I left the gave me the tool to give my GP so he could do it in his office, they could only do half of them because I had a small infection and in that extra week I healed fast and noticed it was a bit more painfull to get them out,I would ask the doc and see what he advises you on this, just to be safe. have a nice flight matt
Since they really aren't doing anything, delaying removal won't do any harm other than cause a little local inflammation. If you are particularly concerned, just call the surgeon's office and ask for their earliest appointment. There is no reason for them to be there anymore.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

I had my staples in for almost a month due to infection in the incision. They had to keep them in so my incision wouldn't split open any more. it was completely fine. Good luck with everything
