I have had my J-Pouch for 3 years (from UC) and luckily have not had any problems. Lately I have had some rectal pain after I goto the bathroom. For some reason it only shows up during the evening. It is a dull raidiating/throbbing pain. I figured it might be an internal hemmeroid since I had a bad weekend of bad eating a few days before and really had to strain so I asked my GI for something I can put inside the rectum. He prescribed some Proctofoam HC which has helped but I still can feel it throbbing although not as intense as before.

Thought someone might have had a similar problem. I am not having any bleeding, just the pain. Maybe it has not been long enough for it to heal. I keep hearing similar symptoms for people with Cuffitis. I don't really know what type of cuff I have but I have never had that or Pouchitus previously. Is this something that can just appear all of a sudden? Thanks for any advice/help...Mark

Hi Rod1,

I have found that sitting on a heating pad does wonders for the throbbing pain; sometimes I alternate between that and cold gel packs (the ones that don't fully freeze.

If it gets really bad, I used a medication called Gabbapentin (sp?); this is an anti-seizure medication that is also used to help with chronic pain management.

Good luck!
